Demographic Characteristics

Positive tendencies in demographic development continue in Ugra:
population increase,
birth rate is high, which is promoted by active demographic policy,
public health system is developing,
value system is focused on families with 2 and more children
As of January 1, 2017, the number of permanent residents of the autonomous okrug according to the estimate by the Federal Service of State Statistics was 1,646,100.
Natural population increase in 2016 was 15,600 (16,500 in 2015).
Number of new born – 25,700 (26,900 in 2015).
Number of dead – 10,100 (10,300 in 2015).
The birth rate in Ugra exceeds mortality 2.5 times.
Ugra is still among the leading constituent entities of the Russian Federation with the best indices:
• of the birth rate – the 9th place with the rate of 15.7 per 1,000 residents (12.9 per 1,000 residents in the Russian Federation);
• of the natural population increase – the 6th place with the rate of 9.5 per 1,000 resident (0.0 per 1,000 residents in the Russian Federation);
• of the death rate – the 4th place with the rate of 6.2 per 1,000 residents (12.9 per 1,000 residents in the Russian Federation).

The number of those, who arrived at the autonomous okrug in 2016, exceeded the number of those, who left, by 3,864 (reduction by 1,848 people in 2015).
Slight positive balance within the Russian Federation is ensured due to the migration based increase from the Republic of Dagestan – 1,430 people, Omsk Oblast – 1,110 people, Kurgan Oblast – 737 people, and the Republic of Bashkortostan – 633 people.
Migration-based increase is observed in 6 municipal cities of the district:
Surgut – 7,071
Nizhnevartovsk – 1,396
Kogalym – 684
Khanty-Mansiysk – 638
Yugorsk – 120
Nyagan – 119.
